SUMMARY

The Household of Prince and Princess of Wales supports the official and charitable work of The Prince and Princess.  This is an exciting opportunity to join the Household in support of The Prince and Princess and the wider Household.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role will be responsible for drafting replies to correspondence received by the Household of TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales (“the Household”) which requires a bespoke response and liaising with the general correspondence team at Buckingham Palace to ensure a comprehensive service is maintained.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft well considered tailored responses to letters received by the Household which require a bespoke response on a specific portfolio area, interest, patronage or military affiliation of TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales;
  • Draft letters for the Private Secretaries and Assistant Private Secretaries and take dictation when required;
  • Work closely, both with members of the team within the Household responsible for correspondence and within the Royal Household general correspondence team, to ensure that all correspondence is responded to in a correct and timely manner;
  • Utilise Household databases to record responses sent and actions taken with post received and where needed, provide support in opening, logging and distributing correspondence;
  • Pro-actively maintain and develop efficient office process and systems where required;
  • Working with cross-Household teams to manage all filing and archiving generated;
  • Respond to requests for information and statistics relating to correspondence;
  • Help to continue to develop the guidelines and procedures for incoming correspondence.

CANDIDATE CRITERIA

Essential: 

  • University degree or equivalent qualification/professional experience;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to draft well written correspondence;
  • High level of grammar competence; 
  • Organised, methodical and analytical approach to work;
  • Advanced IT skills and competent user of databases;
  • Ability to remain patient and calm under pressure;
  • Self-starter, able to work alone but also with others;
  • Ability to do own research and use own initiative;
  • Confident to communicate with a range of individuals and organisations to support with letter content;
  • Flexible and pro-active approach;
  • Ability to build strong relationships with other departments across other Households;
  • Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality at all times; and
  • Clear handwriting;
  • Willingness to travel to other Royal Residences as required;

Desirable

  • An interest in, and understanding of, the work and activities of Their Royal Highnesses
  • An understanding of, or previous experience of using nominals.
